Ice transformed into heavenly music. An igloo becomes a theatre at 2600 metres on the Presena Glacier. A 200 seat theatre will host an ICE MUSIC FESTIVAL until the spring. Four concerts a week are envisaged with instruments made only of ice.
This is a story like something from a Hollywood film: a young boy from the american outskirts, who is passionate about creating something out of ice, so much so that he makes a proposition to the owners of the ski lifts, hoping that this would substitute a ski pass which he could not afford. His passion became so strong until he was able to create musical instruments all made out of ice. Finally to crown his dream, the creation of an ice dome at the top of the mountain where the concerts could be held.
This event, far from being a beautiful fairy tale, is that of the american artist Tim Linhart, who, this year will see his dream come true in the form of an ICE THEATRE at an altitude of 2600 metres, on the Presena Glacier, within the Pontedilegno – Tonale district and on the borders of Lombardy and Trentino. The original structure will be seen by all the skiers and tourists staying in Val di Sole and Val Camonica from New Years day until the end of March. In fact it will host the ICE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2019, a rich schedule of Jazz and Classical music concerts, performed by internationally renowned artists and only with the ice instruments created by Tim, and will be promoted by Pontedilegno-Tonale, the Val di Sole Rabbi and Pejo Tourist office, in collaboration with Trentino Marketing.
“We are very happy to be hosting this festival of which there is no equal in this Alpine region” explains Michele Bertolini, delegate of the Pontedilegno-Tonale consortium. “In this way we are able to offer something special to our guests who have chosen this district in which to spend their holidays. This amazing work of art will enrich the already incomparable panorama of the Presena glacier with its views of the Adamello, the Brenta Dolomites and the Ortles-Cevedale mountain groups.”
The concerts will be available for everyone to attend, skiers or not, as the 200 seater igloo is easily reachable by way of the ‘Cabinovia’ from Tonale. There will be 4 concerts a week, on Thursday and Saturday. On Thursday the ICE MUSIC ORCHESTRA, a group of 6 permanent musicians will offer both Folk and Classical music. The Saturday concerts (with the addition of two Sundays) will present a variety of music, from Jazz to Pop, and from Rock to traditional.
