Paradice Music: ice concerts

Every winter, at an altitude of 2,600 metres, the foot of the Presena Glacier plays host to a unique experience that can take place nowhere else. Paradice Music is the Pontedilegno-Tonale winter festival where music is played in ice, inside an authentic theatre-igloo. Even the instruments are carved out of solid ice: guitars, bass, strings, drums and even a didgeridoo. From January to April, in the Paradice Dome in Passo Paradiso, Italian and international artists perform in a programme that ranges from rock to pop, and from classical music to special events. What are you waiting for? Experience spectacular high-altitude music.

Before ice comes water

In Pontedilegno-Tonale, water lies at the origin of everything: a precious and fragile resource that can change shape, even becoming music.

Water is everywhere in our mountains. It flows in the Oglio river and in torrents, it fills the mountain lakes, rests in high-altitude glaciers and brings well-being to open-air wellness areas. In the winter it forms snow for the ski runs and ice on the Presena Glacier. These are the origins of Paradice Music: first the theatre, then the instruments, and lastly the music. However, water - in all its forms - is also a fragile and precious resource. This is why, every summer, we cover the Presena Glacier with approximately 100,000 square metres of geotextile that helps reflect the sun’s rays and limit melting. It is also why, every year, we also celebrate this element through music: in the winter with the ice concerts, and in the summer with the waterside concerts of Water Music. A way to r

Paradice Music comes to life in the Paradice Dome in Passo Paradiso: a genuine 200-seater theatre-igloo that is built every year out of snow and ice. To reach the theatre, take the Paradiso cable car from the Tonale Pass and continue by foot for approximately 250 metres along a beaten track. However, the real surprise is inside: Even the instruments, are carved entirely out of solid ice. Guitars, basses, violins, violas, cellos, drums and even a didgeridoo take shape thanks to the skill of Lino Mosconi, Giorgio Tomaselli and Matteo Aielli, artists who grew up in the Ponte di Legno and Vermiglio areas. These are not just sculptures to be admired: they are real instruments designed to be played live. This is where the concept of Paradice Music is truly expressed: ice is transformed into a theatre, instruments and music.
