P7 Al Lago del Mortirolo

The popular and attractive lake “Lago di Mortirolo”(1779m) lies between green meadows and rhododendrons near the pass of the same name, at the North-Western foothills of the Cima Verda mountain. It is easy to get to in just 20 minutes, taking a left leading downhill off the main road just before the Passo Mortirolo (from Monno) near an Agriturismo or farm hotel. You can park at the sides of the main road nearby. It is possible to reach the bar-restaurant by the lake (Rifugio Antonioli) by car, but it is a narrow off-road track. Here we show you a more interesting circular route for visiting the lake on foot, starting by the church of S.Giacomo, taking a pleasant route once used by those who fought in the resistance movement in these mountains.

From Monno, follow the signs to the Mortirolo Pass to the church of S.Giacomo (1700m). It is just a few metres from the main road and you can park just before it. Take the path marked “Sentiero della Resistenza no.23 – brigata Schivardi-Tosetti”. It goes downhill over a little stream to the fields and farms of the Cima Verda foothills, with lovely views of the Mortirolo valley. Next turn right uphill towards the lake (1779m), paying attention to the red, white and green signs. The lake has a path which circles it for those who want to explore its shores, otherwise go to the Antonioli refuge and from there take the uneven trail up to the main road of the Mortirolo Pass, which has great views onto the lake and Adamello mountain range. Once you get to the asphalted main road, turn right onto it to go downhill towards S.Giacomo where you parked.
