Vermiglio
Vermiglio is the most western town in Val di Sole. It is a typical Alpine village in a sunny, panoramic position in front of the highest peaks of the Adamello – Presanella Mountain Range.
At the Cross-country skiing centre in Vermiglio Nordic skiing enthusiasts can find excellent conditions for this sport with 4 tracks for a total of 25 km of marvellous slopes. The Centre has a bar, showers, changing rooms, a car park, equipment hire, a ski school and a waxing service. For children there’s La Bruscadela, a slope for sleds and rafts with an easy ascent by travellator and a skating field. In addition there are numerous splendid paths for Alpine skiing excursions and with snowshoes.
In the summer Vermiglio is the ideal departure point for excursions, trekking, Nordic walking and mountain bike trips as well as to relax next to the small lakes located near rio Vermigliana. Here fitter hikers can reach the Denza Mountain Hut and Mount Presanella.
The historical importance of this small town that was completely destroyed during the White War is backed up by the numerous ruins such as Forte Strino, an Austrian fort that was recently restored where it is possible to see a permanent exhibition of photographic materials, documents, videos and war relics.
Not to be missed is a visit to the Museo della Guerra di Vermiglio, full of original artefacts from the time such as weapons and soldiers’ personal objects, original documents and photographs with particular reference to events that took place in the area around Vermiglio, which was in the line of fire from 1915 – 1918.
